Fan: how to choose the most suitable models
The fan represents real low-cost salvation in the warmer summer months. In addition to being an economic tool, its use is equally convenient. Unlike the air conditioner, its consumption is minimal even if you keep it in operation many hours a day and anyone can make sure of it by taking a look at the electricity bill. The fan energetically moves a flow of air inside closed rooms, such as your home, offices, businesses, etc. and the more powerful it is, the more effective it will be, even when the air itself is really hot. The fan does nothing but evaporates the excess heat.
Also, unlike the cold air conditioner, the fan is hardly poorly tolerated. It does not cause the classic headaches or nausea due to air conditioning. The fan offers a pleasant feeling of coolness but without overdoing it or creating excessive thermal shock between the air inside and the outside.
Types
There are different types of fans on the market, but here below we will go into the ones present in our catalogue:
- Freestanding
- Ground
- Desktop
- Industrial
Let's see specifically what is meant by each type of fan!
Free-standing fan
The free-standing fan is the most common fan within the home, and everyone has one without a doubt, since, unlike a ceiling fan, it does not require installation and can be used almost anywhere.
The centre of the fan is supported by a rod, generally adjustable in height. Also, the grille with the fan inside is adjustable. Precisely for these reasons, it is ideal in rooms that are not too large if you want to enjoy the advantages of this type fully.
Another point in its favour is that it can be easily assembled but also disassembled. Its components can be reduced in such a way that they can be stored without problems in the garage, storage room, or the cellar with a considerably reduced footprint!
Ground Fan
The ground fan is widespread in commercial activities, where there is a need to give relief, especially to customers. Not by chance, it is often placed at the entrance of very large shops such as those dedicated to DIY, to give immediate relief to those who enter during the hot season. Its structure, although more imposing than the classic free-standing fan, is still easy to transport to any point in the room and some models even offer the possibility to hang it on the wall or ceiling, according to your needs.
Desktop fan
The desktop fan fits easily into the portable fan type, as it is small in size and without a rod. Precisely because of this last characteristic, it offers greater stability than other types of fans, as there is no risk of the rod collapsing if the fixing screws are not tightened correctly. The main advantage of the desktop fan is the possibility to use it almost everywhere: in the office, at home, in commercial activities and all with the minimum space requirements...The desktop fan can be stored for the following summer just as it is, without the need to disassemble and repack it.
Industrial fan
An industrial fan is a machine of rather imposing dimensions because they are designed to move air flows able to cool medium-large environments. They are mostly used inside workshops, greenhouses, warehouses, or stables. This type represents the ideal solution, especially in the working environment as it can ensure the relief of employees with very low energy costs, even if its operation covers the arc of many hours.
Decisive factors in the choice
Regardless of the type you will choose, the characteristics in the list concern and apply a little bit to all fan models on the market. In addition to the size of the blades and the size of the fan itself, it is essential to take into consideration:
which in smaller models can be reduced to a single-speed, while in larger models, it can be two, three, or even more, and of course, the higher the speed, the more fresh air will come out of it.
this factor, which is expressed in dB, is of fundamental importance for maximum comfort. Fortunately, almost all modern fans have a very low noise level, so much so that many can safely sleep even at a fairly close distance from the machine.
this characteristic concerns only the supported fans but it is fundamental because a good fan must be able to be aimed in different directions without problems or failures, with a constant speed to ventilate different areas of the same room with the same regularity and timing. This characteristic is "a must" for those who want to use the fan in moments of relaxation, so as to enjoy uninterrupted airflow.
Also, another point that is equally valid for many people is the aesthetics, and especially for the hi-tech models, there are different variants of fans: from the metal structure to the wooden one up to the most varied colours possible, to blend perfectly with the furniture!
