Metal-free safety shoes: who are they suitable for?

Metal-free safety shoes are entirely free of metal components: from the upper to the most particular details such as laces and loops.

The working environments in which this type of safety shoe is most in demand are::

  • airports
  • public offices
  • museums
  • customs offices

The reason for the search for this type of footwear in the areas mentioned above is that it is undetectable by the metal detector, but it has nevertheless been observed that both the design and characteristics of metal-free footwear are becoming increasingly common in the health and culinary sectors as well.

At this point, the question naturally arises…

What materials are used in work shoes if not metal?

One of the most commonly used materials when it comes to metal-free work footwear is polyurethane, which is very common in soles, while the alternative to the classic metal toecap is the:

  • composite toecap → lightweight, high thermal insulation
  • glass fibre toecap → very comfortable, resistant, electrical insulation
  • carbon fibre toecap → low thickness and high impact resistance

In addition, using materials other than steel and metal in a shoe makes a difference: its weight will be considerably reduced, resulting in a greater feeling of comfort perceived by the worker.

Metal-free work shoes are therefore suitable not only for those working in the areas in the list above but for anyone looking for lightness and greater freedom of movement.
