PRESSURE WASHER: WHICH TO CHOOSE?

How often, at the end of winter, looking at the dirty house terrace with moss, mold deposited, leaves, and any other source of dirt caused by seasonal bad weather, or after doing the work at home, we found ourselves faced with the dilemma: "How do I clean it?" Nothing could be easier if we have the right tool: the pressure washer !!!!  

A pressure washer is an appliance that uses the power of water by increasing its pressure: the one that uses the tap of the domestic network is just over 2 bar, while the one coming out from a high-pressure cleaner reaches very high levels that vary from 50 to 200 bars and over. 

Water: an essential element for humanity

Man is such only because of the presence of water; thanks to it, mankind has evolved, without it, there would be no possibility of survival. The evolution of the human species has gone hand in hand with the presence or absence of water and in the future, it has become a primary good , ever more precious, and almost sacred. Every small, great conquest of man has originated from the exploitation of water.
So, it is safe to say that the industrial revolution took place thanks to the exploitation of water, the birth of merchandise related to mechanical equipment is linked to water, the birth of technology applied to the instrumentation has gone hand in hand with the exploitation of water ..... thanks to its use has opened a new world for tools, appliances, utensils that are now part of our daily life.

HOT WATER OR COLD WATER WASHER?

One of the factors behind the good quality of a pressure washer is the flow rate of water that it is able to deliver in the time span of one hour: a minimum capacity for having an optimal effect, is about 320 l / h . In addition to this, we must check another important factor, namely the pressure with which the water is "pushed" out: the natural pressure with which the water comes out of the tap of the domestic network is around 2 bar ; a good pressure washer can increase the water pressure from 50 bars to 200 and above . In this case, the cleaning power of the pressure washer is very good and the results obtained will certainly be optimal. Hot water: These are high-performing machines, targeted especially to ' industrial and professional environment, but are also largely used in household cleaning. They are able to deliver water at high temperatures with high pressure, able to easily clean and sanitize any kind of dirt. The water is heated through the passage inside the high-pressure washer itself, by a burner or by connecting it directly to the hot water of the home network.

As mentioned above, hot water pressure washer machines are designed and addressed almost exclusively to professional users: in addition to having high pressure jets, the water can reach 90 °C in a few moments and confer incredible and unbeatable cleaning and disinfecting power! Dirt, particularly old caking, mold, dirt, moss, blocked sewer pipes... the pressure washer is intended for this and much more and the final result is excellent! In most cases, pressure washers have an electric or gasoline engine, which drives a pump that gives more or less pressure to the water; an adjustment valve allows you to regulate the quantity of water to be recycled in the head, by varying the pressure/flow ratio from the water outlet. We advise, however, to not to recycle the water, because the high temperature could wear the internal parts of the pump damaging it substantially.

1. The first step is to evaluate the power of your hot water pressure washer.

Consider these three points:

• PRESSURE: It is measured in BAR and it is the force with which the water is thrown out of the machine. It influences the work field as each surface supports a certain quantity of pressure. For example, if you need to clean your car and use too much pressure on the bodywork, it could be damaged. In general, the higher the pressure, the more efficient the cleaning will be. Therefore consider the dirt and the surface to be cleaned.

 For a hobby use of the machine, we recommend a hot water pressure washer that has a pressure ranging from a minimum of 20 bar to a maximum of 100/10 bar .

For semi-professional use, we recommend products that have a pressure ranging from 100 to 150/170 bar.

For professional industrial use, we recommend products that exceed 170 bar of pressure.

•  CAPACITY: is the amount of water that supplies the machine over a period of time. Generally, the liter / hour (l / h) is taken into consideration. This data, together with the pressure will help you to understand which pressure washer will meet your needs.
• POWER: Indicated in kW or in Watt. It varies depending on the model and your needs. For a hobby high-pressure washer the kW range from 1.3 kW to 1.8kW . For semi-professional models, the kW changes and are between 1.9 kW and 2.1 kW. The machines suitable for industrial uses are those that have about 2 kW .

2. Now that you know the basics:

If you plan to use the pressure washer to clean small or medium areas such as:

• Fund / garage
• Driveway to the house
• External walls

We recommend hobby and semi-professional machines that can go from a minimum of 20 bar to a maximum of 110 bar. For semi-professional machines, a water pressure of 110 bar up to 170 bar is preferred.

Others are ideal for cleaning continuously and for demanding jobs such as:

• Tractor with encrusted mud
• Truck with burnt oil
• Stable
• workshop

In these cases, we suggest a pressure washer with pressure ranging from 170 bars and up.
